Hobbies are not a waste of time

Children are asked to score well in their tests from day one. Parents are fully convinced that their kids will have a brighter future with good grades. There is no doubt about that. But wait, have you thought about how efficient they would be with only concentrating on academics. Studies have proven that children with great interests in their hobbies have better grades than other children.

By definition: a hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time. Most parents who want their kids to score well look for that as a waste of time. They have this misconception that the more time they have for leisure; more diverted they can be from studies. They forget that it’s not possible for any person to concentrate on one thing for all of the time.

A kid’s efficiency is linked with the work they do with the full heart. They will have a great focus if they love the work they are engaged in. If they find something boring, it will automatically become though. But if they find something challenging, they will devote their self fully in it. Kids don’t like to be told everything they should do. They like exploring the world with their own lens. In between this exploring, they chose their hobbies for which they want to devote time.

Hobbies can be very different from child to child. Some kids might have simple hobbies like painting and singing. Some might have complicated interests like horse riding, baking, gardening etc. No one can force a kid to choose their hobby. They will automatically be magnetized by the activity they find interesting. Some parents force their kids to choose the hobbies they are interested in. But it sooner or later might go vain.

Kids engaged in hobbies have a perspective to mold things. They find a platform where they can try their creativity in the section they think they can make a difference. They see the things above usual and as in this competitive world everyone is praised for what is beside usual they can create. These activities push their brain to develop and function better.

Hobbies are not permanent. They change with time. It’s not necessary that if your kid likes to garden, he/she might keep that activity for long. They might switch to give their time to baking or cooking. They might find that activity interesting also. They might get excited with a variety of stuff they see.

Hobbies are not a distract-er from their academics but might be a source of side income as they grow up. As your kids grow up and move to study further, they might be stuck in the situations where they may need extra money. With the help of their interests in different hobbies, they can choose side jobs which can give them aid in time.

Hobbies might be a bridge to connect you and your child. The weekend is the time when both parents and children find time to give time to their hobbies. As parents, your children need your support and appreciation for the creativity and effort they put into these activities. With this, children will find a connection with parents as they will feel encouraged.

Embrace your child’s hobbies. They will always be a support to your child. But always be a permanent guide to them. Tell them about the outcomes of the time they are devoting in these activities and how to limit them to the extent where their studies are not affected.
